Jeff Barker and Mike Morford, Security Data Analytics Pioneers, to Lead Interactive Workshop

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., July 30, 2015 – FireMon, the leading provider of proactive security intelligence solutions, today announced that Jeff Barker and Mike Morford, founders of FireMon’s newly acquired Immediate Insight, will lead a workshop at Black Hat 2015 that explores methods and tools for optimizing the human interpretation and decision-making layer of IT security. Taking place August 1-6 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Black Hat is the industry’s premier technical information security event, providing attendees with the very latest in information security research, development and trends.

Just as perimeter defenses have evolved to combat the changing threat landscape, so must the industry’s ability to create a data-driven security practice for increasingly complex infrastructures and sophisticated adversaries. Despite advancements in perimeter defenses, security teams have lacked a way to add the human interpretation and decision-making layer necessary to combine diverse data types and rapidly triage events. The Immediate Insight platform addresses this need, augmenting current data analysis infrastructure and processes with a ‘human’ data layer.

Slated for Wednesday, August 5, the session, “Exploiting IT Analytics to Create a ‘Human Layer’ Security Initiative,” will be presented during four workshops – 10:20 a.m. PDT, 11:30 a.m. PDT, 1:50 p.m. PDT and 3:00 p.m. PDT – and will focus on a new class of challenges for IT security, driven by cloud/mobile-centric architectures and dynamic-by-design infrastructures such as SDN. During this live, interactive workshop, Barker and Morford will examine, demonstrate, and discuss a new data discovery paradigm and class of data analytics, specifically for the human layer of IT security.

“Testing our designs and assumptions through an exchange of ideas with the people in the trenches is the best way to ensure that our solutions enable organizations to enhance their security posture,” said Jeff Barker, VP of Product Management for FireMon. “We look forward to collaborating with the Black Hat community to ensure that we continue to be a solution to their problem, not a solution in search of a problem.”
