Firewall policy management can become complicated very quickly – many companies are managing hundreds of firewalls from several vendors and the volume of rules quickly escalates from hundreds to thousands. A recent survey of network and security personnel across several industries – financial services, government and others – indicates that this complexity comes at a cost:

  • 70% of respondents are concerned that complexity is increasing the administrative time required to manage the firewall
  • 71% admitted time to perform manual analysis was a limiting factor in managing their firewalls
  • 57% believe complexity and misconfigurations have caused security gaps
